Introduction

About 44.74% of the total area of Nepal is covered by forests. Agriculture and tourism, environment, biological diversity and the backbone of the geographical development structure are from the forest sector, 70% of the daily needs of the country's wood fuel, 40% of animal feed, wood and non-wood forest products including herbs are being supplied. In the same way, by means of forest and watershed protection, protection of arable land and increase in productivity, protection of estuaries, wildlife and biological diversity, climate purification, human health and nature protection and maintaining environmental hygiene have been greatly helped.

On the map of Nepal, this Jajarkot district, located in the arms of the Kanjirova mountains and next to the Bheri river, is a hilly district under Karnali province, which has Rukum West in the east, Surkhet and Dailekh in the west, Jumla and Dolpa in the north, and Salyan and Surkhet districts in the south. The total area of the district is 222100 hectares and it is spread from 280 37' to 290 07' north latitude and 810 49' to 820 34' east longitude from sea level to 610 meters altitude to 5412 meters altitude. About 129121 hectares or more than 58.145 area of the total area of the district is covered by forest area, while the main occupation of 935 people here is related to agriculture and forest sector related activities. Among the different methods of forest management in this district, mainly community forest, forest managed by the government, protected forest and private forest management system are being used for protection, conservation and utilization of forest. 38.42% of the total forest area of the district is being managed as community forest by forming consumer groups.

In terms of forest management for the entire district, forest management is being done through 1 division and 6 sub-division forest offices. According to the structure of federal Nepal, Jajarkot district is divided into 1 parliamentary and 2 provincial constituencies, 3 municipalities and 4 village councils, in which the highest forest area is in Barekot village council (25.97%) and the least in Bheri municipality (9.89%). %) is included.

Although it is very difficult from the point of view of transportation and it is a very rich district in terms of natural resources, it is considered that the accessibility of transportation is somewhat easy. Due to the lack of other physical infrastructure as well as proper development of transport and communication and the lack of road connections in all areas of the district, the development of the district has become more difficult. Natural resources, especially forests, and herbs, which are the main natural resources of the district and without its development, the overall development of the district cannot be imagined. . Due to the lack of use of land according to land use, there is a decrease in land productivity, land erosion, floods, and landslides are increasing day by day, and the situation is being created in which the continuous benefits obtained from the land are being avoided.

It is inevitable to develop the diversity of forests, plants, herbs and other organisms obtained by climate diversity due to the difficult topography of the district. Since the development of the forest areas around the scattered villages and settlements is not possible without the participation of the local people, the goal is to encourage them to participate in the forest development work by making them aware of the needs and importance of the local community.
